‘Into The Woods’ - The Original Broadway Musical (1989)

If you enjoyed the 2014 film of Stephen Sondheim’s musical 'Into The Woods', then you will love the original stage production. Debuting on broadway in 1987, the show was filmed with the full, original cast in 1989 as part of PBS’s American Playhouse series. The musical won several Tony Awards, including Best Score, Best Book, and Best Actress for Joanna Gleeson (as the Baker’s Wife). One of Sondheim’s most popular musicals, 'Into The Woods' mixes several Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault fairy tales together, including Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Little Red Riding Hood.

With very complex music that is quite difficult to sing (typical of Sondheim’s style), this fantastic cast brings the story to life in ways that are both poignant and hilarious. Luckily for you, the whole show is on YouTube!
